Light fire Again!!!!

My t5 lights caught fire again. I dont know how they keep catching fire. No water can get into them. Luckily my wife was home and smelled something burning and put it out. This time it melted most of the light and some of the trim on the tank. The only thing i can think of is that it is a must for waterproof endcaps. If anyone has a cheap light or some waterproof endcaps for some t5s please let me know. Thanks Chris

Go to ebay and see Sean he is starting to sell coral vue lighting the retro kits are nice they come in 3 sizes 24,36 and 48 inch for a good price

Definitely replace those, man. I think I'd replace the whole thing. Sucks $ wise, but isn't half as bad as your house burning down!

Let see, replace lights "Hundreds", replace Wife (who I'm sure is running out of patience), and home for lack of built in sprinklers...TOO MUCH TO COMPREHEND; not to mention the legal fees associated with a divorce, and the insurance company telling you your not covered when the fire inspector say's the fire started in an aquarium!
GET RID OF THOSE LIGHTS, they are just not worth the risk!!!!
This is a hobby (something to help you relax), not something to add the stress of wondering if your house still exists when you get home at night.

Yeah no kidding. These lights have been a problem since I got them. The lights are in the city dump now. Trying to figure out what to do to keep these corals happy now. Just glad my wife was there to put out the fire.She was not mad about though. She is just worried about her xenia and that the fish are in the dark..lol. Just thankful it was not worse.

FWIW:
My first choice would be to go to EB, tell Sean the situation, and I'm sure he could hook you up with some lights, at an affordable price, and considering your situation, he may even be able to give you a payment plan (if required...no insult intended); but I'm speaking out of turn, go talk to/call him.
Second choice; Go On-Line; yes you are talking money (right now), but everything ends up happy; you, your wife, the corals/fish, and the insurance company; well almost everyone, the divorce lawyers are not all that happy

Thanks man I have been talking to Sean at ebay.Those guys there are great about helping everyone out. I dont spend a ton of money with them but they always treat me and my family great when we go in there. They are a top notch operation for sure. This is the time when I wish I still worked at the LFS. Good old Wet pets...lol. Hopefully I will have this all worked out soon.

Out of curiosity, what kind of lights were they? Do you think they were just lemons or is it something notorious for QC?

Not sure on the brand they were purchased from a fellow reefer.I think they were labeled Solar Lighting Supply

That's pretty scary right there (this coming from someone who lost everything but his gym shorts in a fire )

Glad you elected to replace them. We recently had a new T5 light fixture that shorted, sparked, and tripped the breaker. We'll be sending that one back

You've been more than cool Chris. You could have mentioned that you bought them from me, but didn't. I can respect that. I honestly don't know what to say. They worked perfectly for me for quite some time. Is it possible they got some moisture in them when you first got them from me? With matt's comment, i wonder how many other people have had problems. I have a tek 6-bulb fixture and have had no problems whatsoever. I sent you a pm man. daniel

I'm hoping that this isn't a common thing, because we'd like to install many more of those fixtures. I'll be asking the manufacturer for an explanation for the failure (along with a replacement) to ensure that we don't have any safety issues (the system didn't have any water in it yet, so that wasn't a problem!).
