Before I did saltwater I used to set up big planted Aquascaping type freshwater tanks and the lights that we use to get maximum growth had to be 6,000K-7,500K with that being said all plants must use CO2 to grow and the by product is oxygen, so you wouldn't have to run a protein skimmer that adds microscopic bubbles that get dissolved into the water. But, on another note if you give the plants to much light they need more CO2 to grow which in turns will can raise or lower your pH. Lets say you have a pH of 6.8(this is for freshwater tank pH level just to give an idea), and a dKH (degrees carbonic hardness) of 7. That puts your co2right in the sweet spot of 34ppm which is ideal for C02 plant growth. If you were to add CO2 to your tank it would lower your tanks pH and we all want to keep our saltwater between 8-8.4 so that's not good. The more plants you have the less your tanks pH will drop because of all the CO2 they are absorbing. On another note, it is best if you have a refugium to add a mangrove plant with your macro algae so that way it is using the CO2 from the air not effecting your pH while at the same time absorbing NO2 and NO3.

I use a Home Depot cheap clip on light and a Par 38 flood light. It works and grows algae REALLY well and my shrooms that were on some rubble LOVE it as they went from 1 to like 15 in 8 months or so.

Reef Radiance DM-5e 5w of chaeto growing goodness. Wouldn't have believed it myself had I not tried it Got coralline growing on the rock even.

I think mine is called a macro light. Mount has plastic thumb screws and is adjustable up and down and can rotate 360.

Yeah, but it was cheap as all get out too! It arrived this morning, I don't have the lamp for it yet but tried it in another and I think it'll be okay, though the light is really white - so we'll see.
