Light Level

Is there a chart drawn up yet of the various varieties of zoos and palys and their optimal light level in various tanks? I know this would be hard to get totally accurate, but a general chart should be able to be made for the standard wattages split between Halide, PC and T-5.

Anyone know if that exists yet??
 
Not that I know of... IMO there are too many variables between peoples tanks to have an accurate "seating" chart... :) Some of the Palys I have hate being high up in my 120 with my 250w 14k Phoenix, but they love being high up in my 75 with my t5's... I also keep the nutrient levels different in each tank, which would affect the optimal light level as well... I think the best bet is to start all new aquisitions at the bottom and slowly move them up as they thrive... :D Hope this helps!!!

That is what I figured..... Maybe its a good idea to find out the level and lighting of those you get from folks and try to duplicate it as well initially to minimize light shock.

Thanks... the bottom of my tank will be crowded soon :D.
 
All of my frags stay about an inch under water, under 8 x 54w T5's... So, they shouldn't be shocked by anything except if they were mounted up high under 250 or 400w MH's... For what its worth... lol ;)
 
I think if you start them slowly in the bottom then start moving them around.. your zoos and palys will basically show you when and where they like it best... just experiment around as all our tanks/lighting schemes are different.
 
the more light the better JMHO
I use to run a 400w lumenarc 20k XM SE M59 on a tank that was 36x36x10.
I am now running (2) 250 pfo DE Phoenix bulbs in that same area.

I just ordered (2) 1000w ballasts and (2) 20k bulbs with an extra lumenarc mini. So I will have 2000W 20K on a 10 inch deep tank.




























JK about the 1000w but I do like the (2) 250-good luck!
 
I was being kind of flip an joking about the 2 1000 watters. I am very happy with the 2 250 DE HQI-I was also very happy with the 400w 20k lumenarc. I just needed a little more spread and intensity.
Zoanthids will handle almost everything that you can throw at them as far as MH, but you must acclimate them depending on where they came from. If a colony was in a pet store or some ones nano under PC , then acclimate them to higher light slowly.

JMHO but I have found brighter color and greater growth under very intense MH.
My tank is a little different than most and my lights are also about 12inches above the water surface.

I prefer higher lighting and K for almost all zoanthids except some of the blues and purples-but even under high light those will morph into cool things.

kmax 2 400w hqi at shallow depths could/would be fine depending in the tank L&W and what K bulb as well as what ballast- and if you acclimate the corals. good luck!
 
How long you guys leaving your lights on for?

I would think 10hrs of 500watts vs 4hrs of 500watts would make a huge difference?
