Light Rail

I have seen this used on different threads but cant find the solution or the threads. I have 4 Lumenarc IV's over my new 300 gallon and need a system to move the lights out of the way to gain access to the tank. I am thinking a rail attached to the ceiling and attaching the lights to the rail. The lights can be slid over to allow access.

Anybody use this design and can point me in the right direction?

thanks

You can make a rail using metal beams(trusts). They are solid.they use them for a/c units and to hold plumbing pipes (gas) its a 3 sided tube witch you can get some wheels and slide back and forth. There are a few guys who have something similar. You will have to DIY but you can find everything you need at HD.I think its called can trust(the metal beams)they are pretty solid and you can cut them with a hack saw. They have slots in them already. You can screw them into the canopy or ceiling and mount the lights on another one and roll them back and forth.I would mount them in a canopy as so it looks nicer.I wish I had some in the garage to show you but I used the last ones I had. They don't rust as they are made to be used indoors and outdoors

Thats good info thanks. I should start a thread on my build. I am thinking of ways to allow the venting on the lumenarc's to move when I slide the lighting over?

doing the same but figured I'd powder coat the rails so they would rust over time.

Yaktop..I purchased my rails from a farm supply store and they are already galvanized so they should be good to go. Of course if you wanted them to match colorwise then you could go ahead.

I prefer powder coat and better than galvanized with the salty environment IMO. a;though it will probably last just as long.

I found what I was looking for at a "indoor gardening" Supply shop.

Yaktop- That is a great setup. What size tank is that?

Thanks everyone for the tips.

Tom,

What are you using inside the rails to make the light rack slide? Garage door wheels?
Doug

The rail system comes with wheels and adjusting rods. I found everything at a farm supply store and is listed as a sliding barn door rail.

keep it simple, 99% of the rail systems out here are over built in my opinion.

simple solution, get your self some commercail grade drop cieling grid, not the homeowners type, this stuff works great and only 1/5 of the weight of angle iron and not to mention plywood etc.

You can make you box hood out of it.

Home depot sells door rails, there made to support pocket doors etc, will hole 50lbs with ease on there rollers and aluminium guide rail.
