need opinions, 5 foot wide, 28 inches deep. want sps, clams and all in a mixed reef. Very few 5 foor fixtures out there and I'm no electrition. Hamilton makes a fixture I can use with 250 watt MHs.Will this penetrate my tank 4 inch deep sand bed on bottom.

I think 250w will be plenty and still be able to have clam o the sandbed. Yeah 5 foot is a bad number just rember to cover good a MH is only good for about 2 foot square so you will need three unles you use the edges for lower light critters.
