Dont listen to that guy, he's got something up his butt. You can use a Par30/38, small PC lighting for EASY corals, plenty of tiny T5 options out there too. Look up refugium lights too, those are generally PC or CFL and pretty small.
Par30 should be good, although a simple 3up star from ledgroupbuy, a 40mm heatsink.fan combo off ebay, an LDD-700H, and a 12v 2a power supply would be better and cheaper.
There's also those mini T5 lights that Coralife sells, but there's only 2 bulbs for it.
I have an Eheim 7 watt power led with daylight & actinic blue over a 12 x 12 cube (which I think is about 6-7 gallons). I am just cycling the tank now. This same light is over the same size tank at the LFS and they have some polyps and soft coral doing great under it. It was only about $60. I am planning to put a few small soft corals in it maybe a shrimp and 1 small fish. I would love some feed back as to what you guys think of it.
Don't worry about it. It's just lighting intensity at its base. Just look for 100 PAR and post a fixture on here before you buy so we can see if it's good.
