Lighting an 8' tank

Hi everyone,

Been out of the game for a few years now and looking to get a new tank. Looking to get a tank approx 96"lx 30 or 36d x27" or so tall planning on an sps reef tank.

Question is what would be the most efficient way to light this tank? Ive had halides,t5s, and leds. Got the best growth with halides but want to stay away with power and heat. So that leaves leds and t5s. I thought of two power modules but really don't want to go replacing 16 bulbs each year. Maybe staggering 80w t5s with a retro kit? Or a few led fixtures? Any suggestions?

Thanks

I have an 8ft. tank that is 30 inches deep and 31 inches tall. It is new and still setting it up, but I am going a little old school. I have three MH fixtures (large lumenbrights) and will start with 250 watt radium. If that is not adequate, I have switchable ballasts and will go to 400 watt. In between the MH fixtures I am placing radion G4 pros. Two led fixtures total. Probably get that all set up this weekend and will try to let you know how it goes.

I like the results I see with T5's and they can get great color from sps, and some people really seem to be successful with led's as well. I just never had that success with AI Hydra 52's so going back to my favorite, a MH set up.

Good luck!
