Lighting Expert's Suggestions

I need some advise on lighting options. First I have a 100 gallon (60x16x24) that I hope to house soft corals. I would like to go with a hang from the ceiling all in one light. Any suggestions? I like the look and design of the current usa outer orbit. Any opinions on that fixture?

I just got one (( 48 inch version )) for my 75. I have had it for a week and I am pretty happy with it. (( have experience with the SunPods --- just MH and moonlights, and very pleased with them. )).

Right now I am using the legs, but plan on hanging it in a week or two. I am still not sure if I like the looks of the 10K bulb (( I am used to 20Ks )), but it is starting to grow on me.

I will say this, after having it a week, if I had to do it all over again I would purchase it again -- in a heartbeat.

I would suggest getting the T5 (( for actinic )) one instead of the PC one.

If it matters; it will come with 2 external MH ballasts (( the 250 watt version. )

so you went with the 250 watt version or the 150?

Man that is a lot of lighting for just soft corals! Nice choice on that fixture though. It will give you the option of keeping pretty much anything you may want in that tank eventually

Any issues with those 250s and tank temperature. I have been debating which to go with, but I has borderline temperature issues in the summer.

I have never had any temp issues; all 3 of my tanks have 250s (( 75 *2, 58 *2, 33*1 )).

Clip on fan(s) over the sumps keeps my temps in check for me (( 78-83 ))

What distance over the water do you plan on hanging the fixture at?

That is a good question, maybe 4-5 inches, really depends on what looks best. Right now with the legs I am not having any temps issues, so I am just going to use a height that looks good, and gives me easy access to the tank.
