Lighting fell into the tank....help.

Borchers

Reefer Who needs Help!!!
So I was at work and my youngest Daughter calls me. "Dad your lights fell into your tank". What the heck. She follows it up with one of the LED bars fell into the tank. "Dad the LED is still on and smoking under water" I tell her to unplug the lights completely from the power bars. Well I was at work the whole time. Now that was at 0945hrs this morning it's now. 2015hrs. My corals are very ****ed off. My Stylo looks like hell and every polyp is sucked in further then I thought it could do. My Z&P are half closed and my SPS is pale and slightly sliming. The polyps are out somewhat and the Millie's look ok. So please tell me it's going to be alright. I seriously can't take another mass die off. If I do the tank is gone and I'm out of the hobby for a long time. What should I do???

Water changes
Carbon
Wet skimming
More flow
Lights out for a few days

Help.

There isn't much you can do but wait. doing anything but keeping the water stable will just stress the corals out more. Good luck don't give up.

Things are looking very good today. All corals look to be recovering well. Only thing off is the color. Most look a little faded but that's it. Getting a poly filter Monday.

Sorry that this happend. Best thing you can for your corals is:

1. Carry out at least 30% water changes each week for at least 6 weeks. - Maybe even do a 10% midweek too. EDIT: First week probably a good idea to do 30% W/C every other day. As long as water is mixed fully and temp is same as tank it wont hurt anything.

2. Run GAC. But DONT over overboard. use 1/4 amount and probably leave in no more than 3 days.

3. Wet skimming may help. Not sure...but it wouldnt hurt...as long as you kept Salinity stable.

4. I would get the lights back on. You can run the lights on shorter hours...but I wouldnt turn the lights off.

Good luck. Hopefully everything will pull through. The Polyfilter stuff is good to use too.

But water changes and lots of it, will be your best friend during this time.

Dont worry about doing 30% water changes. I do them all the time on my tank...My SPS are growing just fine and getting quite colourful. - Just make sure the temp is brought up to same as tank and that you mixed the new saltwater for at least a day etc.

Hope that helps. :)

Biggest WC you can do would be a good idea. cut the power and remove the lights first though.

best of luck.
