I am upgrading to a 75 or maybe a 90. Is the extra 3 inches of height and 15 more gallons worth it? I was going to put two 250watt MH on the 75. I want to keep sps so would that be good. Also what if i decide to go with the 90. should i just get two 400 watt mh on the 90? any comments?

the 250's should be good enough for either tank. Heck there's a TOTM where a guy is running 175's and VHO's on a 120, so unless you want to go super high light requirement stuff, 250's should do nicely.

I would go with the 75g or a 120g. I had the 90g and not having the extra six inches front to back sucked! IMO you should make the front to back equal to or greater than the height. It just avoids the rock wall look. I would go with 2x175w on the 75g, and 2x250w on the 120g. If you are really set on the 90g, the 2x175 works fine, but 2x250w will give you more options on what you can keep (at the expense of more heat).

I made the size decision based on the glass. I couldnt fit the extra 6" of width for the 120G other wise I would have done it. I didnt need the extra height of the 90 but it's not bad at all with my plenum and DSB which makes my depth in the 90 only 18 or 19". Still, 4" less height would have made maintanence a little easier in my set-up. But it was the jump in glass thickness going from a 75 to the 90. It comes at the cost of a price jump point as well but I had bad luck with two 75's back in the mid 80's. They were both dues to issues with the glass which was a situational problem, not a condemnation of the glass thickenss for 75 gallons in general. But to remove any uneasiness and doubt stemming from those two bad experiences, I wanted that extra 1/16" or 1/8", or whatever it is, glass thickness. Choices were pretty much limited to AGA at the time. I'm not sure if maybe oceanic or perfecto offers a thicker glass for their 75.

Lighting ... If I were using halide only I would go dual 250 in either tank.
