Lighting for clams?

hey
I am thinking of setting up a 40g or 10g reef tank
and i was wondering want type of lighting i would need for the 40g if i am only keeping zoos, softies, and clams
(might do some hards later on)

And would a 70W MH be enough for the clam in the 10g reef with zoos and softies?

I want to be able to keep any clam i want

If you go with a 40g, like mbbuna said.. 150w mh.

I have a 10g nano reef, and upgraded this week from 24"130w PC 50/50 lighting (my baby clam did fine with that, slightly higher up)..

and just got a sunpod 70w MH HQI. I'd be too scared to put a 150w MH on a 10g nano, I didn't want to cook the contents. But my 70w seems to be doing fine on it, and "clammy" seems to enjoy it.

Here is my 10g with the new 70w MH light, and my baby clam.

Here is my clam, and it was doing fine on PCs just before this. Had it 8 weeks now (the clam).

If you get anything over a 10g, go with the 150 MH. AND.. if you'll be getting into SPS, get the 150w MH. I keep SPS in my 10g nano with the 70w MH fine. But any bigger tank, I'd go with the 150w.

Here is my baby, close up, in the 10g (that will soon be moving to a larger tank in the next couple of months).

:D

JUST REMEMBER.. "any type of clam" you want, will probably outgrow the 10g nano reef to quickly. If your going to do it, start with the 40g, if you know your going to upgrade, and want clams, sps, etc... The bigger, the better. If I knew then what I know now, I'd have started larger. BUT. ... live and learn. Buy what you think you'll go up to eventually now, and avoid the having to "upgrade" everything.

I'm still going to keep my 10g as a frag tank (which it basically is now anyhoo  ). Wish I'd had started larger, rather than smaller. (Like most of Noobies who become addicted and slaves to the reef! :D )
