Lighting for frogspawn or Hammer. Is it enough?

Thanks y0ung0ne, it was definitely a steal. And I will take some pics of them tomorrow and post em up here for everyone. I am already planning my upgrade..lol I'm either going to go with a 90 that my friend has, or I am going to ditch my big fresh water cats and use their 150g tank to turn into a reef. But I am looking into getting them a bigger tank first before I just get rid of them. They are the oldest fish I have and really mean something to me.

I would love to just set up like a 40g cube and put a single frogspawn or hammer in it and just watch it grow and see how big I can get it.

90 are great I love mine it is a good size tank for a reef but it is not one that is to much either of course I am saying this because I only had 4 feet to work with in the spot i needed to put it. That is cool trust me I understand on the fish. My yellow watchman is my oldest fish and he has so much personality it is great.

That would be a neat tank but would you just frag it when it out grows the 40g cube?

Yeah I am thinking about just adding the 90 because I can still jeep my fish and the only things I would need to get the 90 going would be a sump (which is sitting in my shed) sand, and rock to get everything goiung. It comes with everything else.

And yes that is probably what I would do with that tank. Just start fragging it out and either give it away, sell it for cheap, or see if any LFS could use some at a decent price. Lol

yeah i hear you there with the fragging. well all that stuff is not much to get it running. and it is great to be able to keep your fish.

Alright y0ung0ne, here they are. Please excuse the diatoms, I'm having a bit of an issue with them right now, but they will be gone shortly.

let me know if you want to see the rest of the corals :)

Those are really nice great pick up. I would love to see them trying to figure out what else to put in to mine i have a small softie in my tank but it is so small it will not sway lol. Lets see them.

Cool, I will get some more pics of them under actinic lights to show the green and blue, as well as some of my softies to show you. I will do that tomorrow evening.

That works.... So you dont have issues with the softies and the lps? I know softies do chemical warfare which I am a little worried about since I have not done much with them. I know LPS can sting each other but with distance between them not bad and most eyphulias can get along with torch being a problem child. But so far no issues out of mine except a head perished. But would love to see a fts and other corals you have.

I would just watch the lighting. I had a biocube with power compact lights and it was not enough. My Torch started dieing slowly. After i moved to the new 60 gallon and added 4 T5's it came back to life and is now larger than it was before.

I am about to move to a 60 gallon cube with a Radion LED fixture. =) Got the water in it yesterday. Woot woot!

Vadafallon yeah had mine under pc 4 96watt which seemed fine but like i said had one head die not sure why but they are now under 6 t5 54watt lights and it is doing great. Glad to hear you are upgrading always liked cubes just found my 90 and it was a great deal. Sure would be happy to look and follow yours.

It's all about placement. My softies are nowhere near the torch and hammer and frogspawn. In my opinion they tend to grow taller than the LPS (which I consider to grow like a bush) so i put them on the side where they can grow taller. I will get some shots of them tonight and post em up to show you what I mean.

Ok the problem I think I will have is my BTA he is on one side then I have alot of lps on the other big rock my colt sits on the sand bed of the BTA side but not sure what would happen between the two if they got close not that I think they would.

Dude, new tank is sick. I love the new rock work as well. It flows so much better and doesn't look cramped at all. The torch is looking great as well as all of the other lps... Too bad on the EC... I wouldn't have known either. Is it improving at all?

Hey rush thanks its opening up some but not the greatest just sucks I am not so much worried about the cash just hate to see nice things perish and nothing you can do about it. I knew the LFS would not be able to keep it and I guess you can call it a impulse buy but more just wanted to try and rescue it. Thanks the torch has lost one head not sure why but besides that it is doing great. Everything else is working out great and I love the new tank and light makes everything pop. Thinking about maybe getting some zoas to pop and trying to figure out other things to get to fill out this tank. So up for suggestions.

The LTA is doing great. I fed it a chunk of shrimp last night and it ate greedily. It's a great addition to the tank. I do however, wish it was a slightly different color - don't get me wrong, I love it but it sort of blends in with the tank being slightly purple. It doesn't stand out as much as I'd like. I guess I didn't think about the purple LTA blending with the purple coralline algae on the live rock and stuff. No matter, it's awesome either way.

As for suggestions, I have to say Acans. I love my two little colonies. One started out as a frag with one full head and two split heads - they were cut in half during the fragging process. Now it's about 12 heads and is well on it's way to being a colony. They can add some really nice color too.
