Lighting for Reef 92 Gallon Corner Tank

Looks great Chris! I changed out my Actinic VHO's this past weekend for T-5's and I love the color. I'm using the ATI Blue Plus bulbs and the color is a nice crisp ice blue. I have a 3 foot in front and a 2 foot in back on the canopy. I'm actually thinking about maybe pulling out my 2-250 Watt Metal Halides for all T-5's.

Sara - That's what I did for a little while and it worked well for me. I had three 2' T5s and two 3' T5s. The coverage was good and I was keeping some of the easier SPS. I'd probably keep the MH though if you had any SPS towards the bottom of the tank.

I ended up staying with T5s, but I got a Teklight instead because I didn't want a canopy anymore.

Hi Sara!

My original config was a 12" 150W MH in the back, 24" T5s in front of that, and a 36" T5 fixtute in the front.

That worked okay. All my SPS needed to be in the back of the tank though. Plus, my new arrangement means no fans. :) Very quiet.

I only have 3 SPS now and they are at the top of the tank. I have slowly changed over to LPS over the past year so the tank is filled with micro's and acans now. I'm just not sure how my RBTA would react to such a change. I'll have to do some research before I decide to make a change.

Are the fans that loud on the T-5 fixtures?

Sara - I don't think that your RBTA will mind the T5s. At one point, I had my RBTA under only 4 T5 bulbs and it was growing just fine. It looked the same as it did when it was under 6 bulbs. I think all the newer pictures in my gallery were with only 4 bulbs, so that's only about 1.2 watts / gallon (not that watts per gallon is important with T5s ;) ).

About as loud as a bathroom exhaust fan. Too loud for me.

What brand did you have ... so I can avoid that issue!

Wow, that's a very creative design! How does the light on the bow front stand? Is it supported some how or resting on something?

Joe, I wish that question were an easy one to answer. I need to do some research and get back to you.

I bought it from a gentleman named Tony at MACNA last year in Pittsburgh. I know he lives in NY and I know his aquarium was featured in the MACNA magazine that was handed out at the convention.

I don't recall a brand name and I can't find a website right now.

I have a Luminarc Mini pendant, coralvue ballast electronic, and a reflux 12k bulb. Then in the front of the tank I have a 3' 4 bulb tek T5 fixture. I reallly like the combo look.

thanks for the info, I am looking to change the lighting on my 92, I want to try to set a single pendant MH(not quiet sure on watts or bulb type yet), but I need to get a lot of other things done before I start adding that much light to the tank.

That pendant is a lumenbright, not sure if it is the mini or not. I assume you painted it?

I know you can get them from reefexotics or reefspecialty
