lighting for sps tank

I found my answer. I'm going with T5 fixture. All i need to deside on is how many bulbs,10 or 12 and what fixture and what bulbs. Thanks everybody.

Good choice! As far as quality goes you can't beat ATI. 8 bulbs would be great for sps and lps on the bottom. Diehard sps, you'll want a 10 bulb. I think 12 bulbs might be too much but I might be wrong. You could put two 6 bulb 48'' fixtures but I don't know if you want to do that. You can check both out on reefgeek.com, I can't post a link right now because I'm on my phone but I'm sure someone can help. But if you want to save a little; premiumaquatics is having a mobile texting club and when you sign up your next purchase is 5% off so I'd consider that so you can save around $50 or so if you want and also premiumaquatics doens't charge heavy shipping fees, just extra on bulbs. I'll look for a bulb combo that would work and I'll post back. The options are endless. What color are you looking for, 10k, 14k, 17k, 20k?

A good 8 bulb combo would be:
for 15k:
ATI blue plus x 4
GE 6.5k
10k midday x 2
12k ATI aquablue special

for 18k:
ATI blue plus x 4
ATI aquablue special x 2
KZ new gen 14k x 2

10 bulb:
15k:
ATI blue plus x 5
GE 6.5k x 2
10k midday x 2
ATI aquablue special

18k:
ATI blue plus x6
10k midday
ATI aquablue special
KZ new gen 14k x 2

These are just my thoughts and opinions. You'll get different answers in the lighting field. If you have questions just ask me or you can go to the Grim Reefer in the T5 Q&A Thread if you'd like.

to be honest I don't know alot about T5 bulb. I'm new to all this. I just want to buy what i will need for near future. All i need it the lighting to get started.I like the lighting in this tank http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2007-10/totm/index.php

That tank looks pretty blue and is probably in the range of 18-20k as far as color. This is my preference as well. If you want that spectrum I'd suggest:
8 bulb:
ATI blue plus x 6
ATI aquablue
KZ new gen

10 bulb:
ATI blue plus x 7
ATI aquablue
KZ new gen x 2

I hope this helps you out!

What is a good light fixture to go with? I'm looking at 10 bulb. Do they have any with moon leds?

The ATI Powermodule 10 bulb would work great. The ATI doesn't come with moonlights but you can very easily install those extra without any hassle. And the bulbs are 54 watts, yes.

This is what he said in the magazine about his lighting. . I really like the Giesemann bulbs and, for the most part, there is a 3-to-1 ratio of actinic blue to 11,000K whites

i can never find this thread Grim Reefer in the T5 Q&A Thread

Sorry, I meant to say that the T5 Q&A thread is in the lighting and equiptment forum under general interest forums. The Grim Reefer is the creator of the thread and he's kind of a T5 guru.

Where is a good store to buy ATI Powermodule 10 bulb fixture. They have to ship to Canada.

That's a very good question. I'm from the states so I wouldn't know. I would look under reefgeek.com or premiumaquatics.com to see if they ship out to Canada.

Not sure if they ship to Canada, but ReefGeek is a great vendor.

EDIT-Just looked on their site, it says they do ship to Canada.

EDIT #2-FWIW, I really like ATI bulbs. I run 4 ATI Blue Plus, 1 ATI AquaBlue, & 1 KZ Fiji Purple, gives me a 18,000-20,000K lighting with plenty of PAR.

I think the ATI powermodule may be the only option for a 48" 10 tube unit. But it's probably the best T5 fixture available. Sfiligoi may make one, but those are really pricey.

Yep reefgeek does ship to Canada and I agree they do seem like a great vendor even though I haven't ordered through them yet. I also believe that premiumaquatics does too. Just looked at the website and i'm pretty sure they do.

You might also want to check out Oakville Reef as they carry ATI and a number of other T5 vendors. They just started stocking the Vertex LED systems as well. Some of the 10 bulb fixtures are heavy, ATI included, which might cost you more than you'll save buying south of the border. Something that big and pricey will have to go with a courier so count on brokerage fees as well.

What is a good combination of 8 bulbs for a 8 bulb fixture? The only 10 bulb fixture I can find is an ati fixture and that is what I want but a little expensive for right now. The one I want is $2000 , but will get buy next years end.
