lighting height over tank

I built a 2x175 metal halide & 4x65 compact flourescent fixture. I have it 8" above the tank. Should I raise or lower it?

If the bulbs are protected from the splashing of the water, and you have sufficient room to get into the tank for maintenance, I would say that you should be fine at that height.

if its 8" above water level, i say lower it... not necessary though...

id say if you have the time and want something to do, id put them about 3 or 4" above the water. But thats my opinion.

Tough to work on the inside with only 3 to 4 inches of clearance. Make sure they are "raise-able"

I think it's at a pretty good height right now as well, but lowering a bit probably couldnt hurt (as long as it doesnt impede maintenance too much... otherwise I wouldnt bother).
