Lighting question for new Derasa clam

I just got a Derasa clam about 4" in length. I have been reading on these forums and I think my lighting situation is fine, but I just wanted to double check. I have 2-65W PC, so 130W total on my 20H tank. The tank is 16" deep and I have the clam on the sand bed. Is this ok? Or should I move him higher?

Where have you been reading that a clams are okay under PCs? Anyhow you should either go buy a MH light tommarow or bring that clam bak. I would say that nomatter where you put that dersa it will die under thouse lights. Sorry.

scroll down until you see the part about derasa and squamosa. (the paragraph about derasa refers you to the squamosa) The clam is in a 20H and 14" from the light itself.

what color temp are your bulbs?

if one is actinic or both are 50/50 bulbs then cut your wattage in half. even if they are both 10k or 6500k that boarder line for clams long term.

i have 3 maxima's, 3 crocea's, 2 squamosa's, 1 teardrop maxima and 1 derasa. i'll be setting up a clam tank soon so i can get more and i have them all under halides and they love it. it would be difficult to give clams too much light, i think.

Yea one bulb is actinic and the other is 10k, so 65W total. They will only be under that light for a month because at the end of May I am upgrading to MH. You think they will be ok until then?

Yes I say it would be fine if you upgrade within two months. My dersa has doubled in size in about 8months. Enjoy your clams and make sure to keep you cal/alk/mag in check.

it should be ok for the short term but just be sure to slowly acclimate it to the new lighting when you get it

Yea that is what people have been telling me. How long would you make the PP initially when transferring to a 150W MH? I am running an 8 hr PP now with the PCs.

My main concern is the growth rate of derasa's and the size of your tank. It will outgrow your tank quickly.

Haha yea I am upgrading to a 37G at the end of May with MH(still not big enough I know), but I know friends who will gladly trade me for something when he outgrows my nano reef.
