Lighting question

I have seen some tanks that the lights give it a purpleish tint, having power compacts. I have an actinic and a white one,(jebo) but mine looks like sky blue. Is the purple color from another type of actinic bulb or is it something else? thanx in advance

What you are probably seeing is the tank with only the actinics on. In my experience, it makes corals glow and it makes for really cool pictures. Daylight should be anywhere from bright yellow to white to sky blue.

oh well I tried to post a pic of my tank, but didn't work out. the tanks I've seen have the white bulb on too... last time I saw one, the only difference I noticed on the lighting was that it had a moonlight, is it possible that turning on the moonlight during the day gives it the purpleish glow I'm trying to explalin?

I guess anything is possible, but that would take a TON of moonlight. Are you sure that they had PC lights? When I had PC on my tank, the actinic could not overpower the white to give any tint of blue.

there it is....that's my tank 30g 55w white and 55w actinic (don't know if it's true actinic though)

Is one of the bulbs blue when it is on? You could have an actinic white bulb. I made that mistake once, I just saw actinic and bought it. When I put it in, it was just white like any other bulb.

jebo sux! I bought them they get way to hot! and they dont have a dual actinic bulb and by the sounds of it thats what you are looking for. I say replace the bulbs and get redy to replace ballasts mine only lasted 2 months

if the bulbs are jebo brand then the blue bulbs are just regular white bulbs painted blue. getting a better quality atanic bulb will look much nicer

how come the ballast lasted 2 months?
I've had it for over a year now.. I replaced the white bulb already, but the blue one I haven't bought it, I want to make sure I buy the correct one

Is the actinic 03 the one to buy?

110 watts of PC is no where near enough to sustain those clams move them up to the top of your rock structure!

To get that 'purple' colour you can replace your white bulb ( most probably 10 000k ) with a 18 000k which does have a purple tint to it.
