Lighting Question

Helping out a friend that is getting a 300 Gal. tank put together. The dept of the tank will be 36” deep. What lights would you guys suggest getting? Would T5 do the Job? Does it need to have Metal Halide? He would like to have Clams, Hard and Soft Corals. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

id go with 3- 400w mh's

if using the 3- 400w mh's. Should I be concerned with heat from these lamps? Would fans be enough to cool?

with that size tank and depth i would only go with MH and good large reflectors like Lumenarc III.

no i don't think fans can be enough unless you keep the rest of the house cold some people like their house very cold but in most cases you should be concern with 1200 watts of lighting. 3 x 400 watt lamps is like running an 1200w electric heater in the house. imo plan out large tanks very carefully because it could become a money pit very fast.
