Lighting question

Wow, that couldn't have been a more harsh response... I have been pointed to these lights by people that have been in the hobby for 20+ years and swear by them, most have even said that they've ordered all of their fixtures without the fans and the fixtures don't even need the fans...

I'm a bit confused, I read through this thread this morning and quite frankly don't see any harsh responses?

Just an FIY, I believe fans will help prolong the life of the bulbs.

And I'm not sure where you guys buy your light bulbs but I go to a local store that is nothing but electrical stuff and they can order me any bulb for any application... I went and got replacement bulbs for my current Coralife fixture that JBMynes is letting me use and they were only 6$ a piece and are actually BETTER than what the LFS has for triple the money...

Along the lines of what Tonycip stated, how are you qualifying the better bulbs?

Getting back to your original set of questions, any ideas on what corals you plan on keeping? Also if Metal Halides are your ultimate goal, why not try and source a used fixture now rather than spend the money twice?

I am reluctant to buy something expensive like lighting used.

The Catalina can have fans added to it as well.

I am not sure what kind of corals I want to keep, which is why I asked what my options are with an 8 bulb x 54 watts T5 setup.

Benny just threadjacked, but he's been helpful to me, so I'm giving him a pass.

Well I didn't realize that sharing information and opinions on a thread that was asking for those things was thread jacking, this'll be my last post here. Thanks.

The light bulb thing is correct though, they aren't the best of bulbs, but they work until you can get better ones... I've read/heard nothing bad what-so-ever about these fixtures. I plan on getting one as soon as christmas is here... Unless of course, I can find something just as good if not better used for sale somewhere, I doubt that'll happen but until then... I've got my eyes set on these guys...

Well first off Why would anyone ask for an opinion then complain about the results ....as for the catalina fixtures I am speaking from direct experiance as I owned the 8x54w with fans that is being spoke of and I thought it was agreat light for a softy tank I said that it made that tank run 3 full degrees hotter than a smaller tank that was lit with a halide fixture and yes the bulbs are junk and so are the so callled indiviual reflector ....which by the way is one piece looks like a wash board ....thats all I was trying to say buy what ever light you want not my tank what I care you ask for feedback i gave it ....OUT!
