Lighting suggestion for 135 cube.

Okay...I'm dying for a 36x36x24 cube. My only problem is trying to figure out what lighting I need to go with. I'm only keeping softies, but the depth has me concerned. So T-5's or mh? I don't really a canopy.

Will T-5's penetrate that deep for anything to have good growth?

What mh pendant would be reccomended?

10-16 HO T5s 3' 39 watts each would work well. Two aquactinics 5xt5 units would be more than sufficient. This also gives you great leeway in color spectrum and PAR as you have 10 bulbs to work with. You could also put retofit units into a custom canopy as well. T5s (with good reflectors!!!) will have no problem penetrating 24 inches.

what if one was building a 36X36X16 do you think the same lighting would work for sps's then since the tank would only be 16 tall? oh itll also be a bare bottom tank.

I would imagine that t-5's would work fine in that sort of tank reef165. As for the original poster, t-5's would be fine for a softy tank.
