Lighting Wavelengths

From what I have researched and found out colors of your SPS also have a lot to do with nutrients. High nutrients = brown corals. If you want really crazy colors out of your SPS go look into ZeoVit. The tanks run with ZeoVit are gorgeous.

Snaza, don't you run some ZeoVit products?

Use to run a few Zeo products for a few months but they did nothing. Have stopped now.

I've heard that from a few people. They are supposed to have some good products for additives and such but my nutrients were way low with just a decent skimmer and good fuge,

I tried sponge power, coral vitaliser and Aminos but after 6 months I noticed no changes. Stopped dosing and still looks just a s good. Sorry I getting off topic

Hahn, what do you know about induction bulbs?

Granted it's been awhile since you talked about the sulfer/plasma induction bulb in this thread, but I was curious, what do you know about these bulbs? I just spoke with a company based in Las Vegas who is selling high/low bay fixtures complete with aluminum reflector, ballast, and 150 watt 5000K bulbs for about $307.00. They're working on a 6500K bulb, but it's not done yet. I was just curious if you have any idea what kind of PAR numbers these lamps have the potential to produce? I made sure to inquire as to the heat produced by a 150 watt bulb, as compared to a similar wattage metal halide, and he claimed it to be 50-60% less. I'm not opposed to a 5000k bulb after reading through this thread, but with no idea of the usefulness of this bulb to support coral growth, I'm leary but willing to experiment.

Old data.

Old data.

Not one to stifle discussion, but I would simply imply that low kelvin bulbs will produce lots of growth, but not necessarily impressive coloration while "blue" bulbs will produce less growth with subjectively better coloration. In the end it's all in the eye of the beholder and depends on what makes you enjoy your tank the most. If you want to try something new, I say, "Give it a try!" but be sure to share your experiences with the rest of us!!
