hi i have a 90 gal and need new lights too get away from my getto system. yhinking of going either 2x250 like i have now no actinics or, two x175 hqi with two 95 watt pcs actinic around the same wattage wich would you chose and why keep softies zoos and lps mostly zoos. thanx guys

I think you can't go wrong with either setup. I'm thinking that if you have no actinics with a two 250-watt fixture, then I'd use 14,000K bulbs. On the other hand, if you have the two 96-watt pc bulbs as actinics, then I'd use 10,000K 175-watt bulbs with them. If the tank is more than 18-inches deep, I'd decide on the two 250-watt metal halides...otherwise, it's really a coin-toss.

thanx for the reply iv heard hqi bulbs are brighter i should say have better penetration just dont know i do have a 48 x18x24 high 90

If it's 24-inches high, you would, I think, be better off with the 250-watt bulbs.

I'm currently building a hood with two 10k, 250watt MHs and two 120watt, actinic T12s. I was going to go with 175 MHs, but my tank is 30 inches deep. My vote for you, is for the 250s. Good luck. :)
