Which would be better if I kept a clam on the bottom of a 20" deep tank: 250 watt DE or 150 watt DE?

The tank will not have a DSB, and the lights will be about 7 inches from the water. I plan on keeping clams, sps, and ricordia.

Please help, I would like to not have to worry about not having enough light, but I don't want to have too much either.

250w DE bulb should be plenty.

Go for the 250s. Then you can be sure that you'll never have to worry about the 'can I put this in there; not sure if I have enought light' scenario.

If you think something is getting too much light, just shade it under a rock shelf - much easier to decrease the light than increase it, IMO...
