Lightning Maroon clown blog

I'm curious as to whether you searched for "lightning maroon" or anything like that before you posted this. It has been discussed (argued, fought about, etc.) for quite some time on here.

I just read about the blog in Coral magazine and thought I would share. I had not heard about the clown since he bought it. Sorry for stale information.

I read the thing in CORAL also. Fluff article (self-authored, but worded to make it not sound that way) trying to help turn the tide of people against him for hardly any results after over a year. It's not in the table of contents either like the other stories. Why was it in there? It split up a different story into two, the same as a two-page advertisement would in other magazines. In fact, it was a bit of a self-promoting advertisement for his own blog. It was very confusing to me on many levels.

I found the information Matt is trying to share with us was very informative...
There is an old saying, you can bring a horse to water, but you can't make him drink it...
Just because we put 2 fish in the same aquarium, doesn't mean they are going to like each other and breed.

Just my 2 cents...

For those who doubted Matt and have not been following his blog, he has successfully pair the Lightning Maroon (now a female) with a Male PNG Maroon. Patience pays off.

I don't see how this "proves" him right, or ceases my doubt. It really doesn't take anyone with special abilities to pair up a clownfish. On this board every noob with a single fish is told to get a smaller juvi or male and it'll pair no problem. So, congrats, he has now successfully completed clownfish noobie pairing 101. There is nothing extraordinary about this.

It just doesn't work like that with Maroons, and as someone who claims not to be a Noobie you should know that. Sometimes they pair right up, and sometimes the female will kill several males until she finds a suitable mate.

You seem to have some kind of ulterior motive here.

He's been taking an extremely cautious approach - I'll give him that. But are you seriously about to hold him up high because he paired a few fish? With the amount of time he's had that is hardly an accomplishment.

I don't think it's any secret that I dislike the man. I'm sorry, I just don't drink his Koolaid.

Not sure what you mean when you say "it just doesn't work like that with maroons".. IME, get a large maroon and small maroon and they are one of the easiest species to pair..

He had some other factors to factor in.. So its not pairing maroons that was the trouble.. (read the blog)

You seem to have the alterior motive

Congrats to Matt and the pairing.. Lets hope we see some progeny within the next year or so..

That was not a possibility here though. Pairing the maroons was the problem because he was only willing to use PNG Maroons (the correct choice in my opinion). With the options he had to keep this a PNG pair I believe he went about this entirely in the correct manner. I don't praise him for pairing the fish, I praise him for sticking to his guns, keeping this a PNG pair, not giving in to the doubters and critics who are always willing to play with someone elses money, and all around not giving up.

I do not have an ULterior motive at all. I assure you my only motive is to one day be able to own a captive bred pair of these fish, but we still don't even know if the offspring will produce the "lightning" trait.

you should have read that blog in details before commenting as such...lightning maroon was from PNG(papua new gunie)...he intended to pair it with another one from same or nearby location..that's the best way utilize those genetic traits to new generation when breeding... he had only 4 PNG maroons to work with,as SEASMART program which supplied those maroons from PNG came to halt...had it been just to put any maroon as partner,he could have done that ages ago..in breeding ability,he is one of the top guns..

but he made lots of drama with the 'new home'(aquarium) of that special fish..almost 4-5 month long ranting with just the aquarium and afterwards accessories that's were given to him from diff companies for free,so he can advertise about them in full...too much business minded guy...:thumbdown

Really?

I am quite familiar with the soapbox - I mean blog. I know the restrictions he had with the fish from PNG. Think to yourself, if this was anyone else besides "Matt Peterson" would you still be as happy with the way it's going? Do you know of anyone else who would be so quick to write pages of fuming banter to his critics? There is nothing wrong with constructive criticism, except for his inability to take it.

As I said, I don't buy into the whole "Matt Peterson is great, is the best (only) worthy breeder in the world for this fish and we must all blindly follow him" idea. He's on a local board I frequent, and from watching said board my opinion of him from the way he interacts with others keeps sliding. Also, despite his supposed knowledge base with breeding fish, I do not see him as a clownfish breeding expert in the least.

Frankly, I hope that he eventually does bring this fish to the captive bred market. However, there is nothing wrong with disagreeing with the methods and speed at which he is doing so.

Thanks for the correction.. ALterior = not a word.. ULterior = hidden ... Good thing im not studying english.. ;)

I read the blog.. Just noting that his problem wasn't pairing two maroons.. It was pairing two PNG "males"..
