Lightning Strikes

Boy this sucks,
On Wednesday evening lightning struck on or near my house. Taken out were the microwave, a TV, my main computer, and my Aqua JR controller.
I had to leave Thursday morning to help my daughter move, so I was in a tight bind to get everything on my main tank back in working order. A trip to Lowes to buy some timers an power strips had me back in business.
The strange thing is that I was building a new computer to replace my old machine , ie over 15 years old, and had just transferred all of my documents to the new one the night before. How lucky can I get?
Any all of my equipment was on surge protectors, and not the cheap ones, and it was still zapped by the lightning.
I've sent my controller to Neptune to see if they can do anything towards replacing it. Curt says that he doubts it, but it was worth the UPS charges to send it to the experts for evaluation.
Fun, fun, fun...

that STINKS! i had lightning strike close once years back, and fry everything. there were even burn marks on the modem in my computer from it coming through the phone lines. i run around and unplug everything now when i hear it getting bad.

good luck!

Thank sucks :(

Apex? $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Aqua Jr. $$$
Wallet 000

Well put

glad everything is working again! You sure were lucky that you had copied your files over to the new PC!!! btw, they have the RKL on sale for less than $100 - I just got one, they are nice.

not right now - they are working on a software interface and are suppose to release it by the end of the year. I just got a level 1 RKL - I control my 2 MH lights, my temp, and my fans - it has 4 outlets, a temp prob, and the head unit. It does have a USB interface, but that is mainly used for firmware updates.

Since I travel so much I really need to be able to have the controller monitored with a PC.
I'm hoping that Neptune can repair/replace at a reasonable cost compared to the price of a completely new unit.
I really liked the features of the Aqua Jr, even though they cost a little more.
If I had a more complex tank I would consider one of their new Apex systems, but for now that is above what I need.
I hate waiting on things...

Last night I was finally able to install my new Aqua Jr. controller. It felt good to get rid of the timers and extension cords that were laying on the floor in front of my tank.
It looks happier already!
