Lights for a 10 gallon tank

I was thinking of putting together a small tank. LR +LS thinking of adding a rbta and a perc or 2. What kind of lighting would I need for the rbta? Where can I purchase this lighting?

Back when I had my 10 gal. set up, I used coralife quad 96.

Here is a picture when I first set it up.

and since you mentioned a (R)BTA and perc....

I can attest to the fact that BTA's are super hardy (I've put mine through hell and some how it's still alive) but you are really takin' a chance by placing it in a tank that is so susceptible to drastic water parameter changes. If you do decide to do it, that 70w MH would be excellent as long as you keep the water temp. under control. Good Luck.

My old 15g that i had up and running for about 2yrs.....(same foot print as a 10g just 6in taller)....used a 175w-10k MH and 2-18w Actinics, retro style in a custom built canopy.....
I kept everything in there....rbta, zoos, sps, leathers, etc....all did really well and the lights were spot on!

My current nano, 14g acrylic, i'm using 1-70w-10K MH and 2-9w actinics.....everything is doing well.....

i love the ripple effect of the MH...so personally id go that route!

Good luck!

Not looking to purchase halides since it'll be more money and too much heat. I think pc's will be fine (are there any small vho units available), I'm not looking to spend much since I want to upgrade my 45 gallon sometime next yr.

Where are the best prices for a small lighting fixture and which one do you guys recommend? I would like to have that dawn/dusk effect (I have an old 36" pc fixture before I got my MH's for my 45 gallon) but not sure if it's even offered for such a small fixture.

I know you said no MH, but I have a black canopy for a 10 gallon withone 175 watt halide with PC actinic lights. 75 bucks

You can't beat that.

I'm interested, you have pics? If not can you give some info on height, bulb, cooling fan etc....

I will get some pics and measurements tomarrow or sat. The canopy is a DIY job but works great

I had to pass on the MH lights, I think water temp would be to big of an issue for me and had to go with the lowest heat output possible.

Well, I made my purchase.....@ big al's, tell me what you think.

ASWO# Product and Unit Price Quantity Price

This is an oversized item and will incur $8.01 in shipping charges.

(They price matched premium aquatics at $15.95 but they added like $1.60 for something, don't remember exactly.)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Coralife Aqualight Adjustable Mounting Legs
$11.99

(Best price I could find and love the idea of flipping up the lights when it's feeding time)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

16237
Remove this item Marineland Penguin 100B Power Filter
$14.99

(Same price as the doctors and I think marineland has one of the best products out there)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Subtotal: $167.96
Standard Shipping: $11.95
Oversized Shipping: $8.01
Taxes: $0.00

Total: $187.92 (but with the price matching and stuff it came out to $146.03, shipped!)

The only thing I probably should have done was purchase an extra bulb for the fixture (hellolights had it for $19 for an extra bulb). Maybe should have waited for a free shipping sale but I thought what the hell lets get this tank going.

LR and some zoo's/mushrooms (for color, might even try a clam!)will come from my existing tank. All I need now is some inhabitants.......???? any recomendations?

I'd like to add shrimp and since the tank is small........... I was thinking 2-3 sexy shrimp. As for fish it'll probably be no more then 2. Any suggestions?
