I have a 93 gal cube with a 40 gal cube for sump...open top. I am either getting the ever grow 55*3 leds (2 fixtures) or a hqi brushed aluminum light with 14k Phoenix bulbs in it. The less are $150 a piece shipped and they do dim 0-100%. The hwi is $250 from the previous owner of this tank.
Thoughts, ideas, pros cons?
I have a friend who happens to be a mod on reef central and he has a 75 gal tank with two of the led fixtures I mentioned above. They are growing softies, Lps, sps...the hqi I will grow the same I would assume but..the heat issue is what concerns me...

You might wanna check out kessil leds, i think 2 would be badass for your cube tank

ok im not helping im trying to get you to spend more money ahhhh

I'm surprised no one else has commented on my question...maybe I have asked too many questions?? If so I'm really sorry hope I wasn't annoying.

*the cheapo leds above are ever glow not ever grow...my mistake.

You're basically asking if you should get LEDs or halides. This subject has been beaten to death. If you search the lighting and equipment forums you will find lots of information to read through.

I can tell you that I love my hqi fixture and that I have no issues with it overheating my tank. That's my situation though. Having an open top helps and you can always add a clip on fan to blow across the surface if needed during the warmer weather.

There are too many factors to consider when choosing a lighting system and it's individual the the person and the tank he/she is lighting.

Thanks Chihuahua! I think o have decided to go w mh. I was told for the best color go 14k or 20k bulbs .is this the same type of results you have found?
