Lights out

The light on my 12G nanocube is getting really hot and shocking my tank as well. I just turned the lights off for good. There isn't any coral in the tank just a clown fish and a watchmen goby also some assorted snails. Will it mess anything up if I leave the light off for about a week? I'm going to order one of the clamp on MH setups but it won't get here till next week.

Well, let me be the first to say that a MH lamp is NOT going to cool your tank down. It is only going to make it more hot compared to the stock PC lighting on the NC's. Next, the light being off will not affect anything UNLESS you have LR. If you have LR, then it may cause some dieoff. But if you allow a decent amount of natural sunlight in, the LR may be fine for a week.

Well, the Viper K2 will be fine, as long as you keep it moderatly high off the top of the aquarium. The aquarium MUST BE OPEN TOPPED! A lid would cook the tank like a turkey on Thanksgiving! I have a 150w Sunpod MH on my 24g Aquapod. The tank runs at like 85 fricken degrees. o side effects as far as I can tell, yet. Good luck, and keep us updated!

I was actually thinking about cutting a piece of plexiglass and drilling a ton of holes in it. I'm guessing that wouldn't be a good idea.

I have the K-2 Viper 150w on my 24g JBJ DX and it is fine. Tank runs around 79 - 80 degrees. I would not put the plexiglass over the tank though, it will definitely heat up your tank like a rice cooker. Steamed fish anyone?
