Lime Water Storage

You have just saved me hours of messing about with Buffer and Calcium additives.

I am now using Calcium Hydroxide through a dosing pump and a float switch in the Sump, around 2 T spoons per Gal (UK)
My Calcium for a week has been steady at 400 and kH at around 10.
When you make up your 30+ Gals do you stir at all, or just leave it with the lid on and top up from the clear part for a few weeks?

Read all you articles and couldnt see any mention of mixing or stiring during mid storage.

Thanks

I just let it sit there, and it is fine. Sitting is better than stirring, IMO, because it allows some impurities to settle out. :)

Randy - do you stir it initially though? or do you just fill the reservoir and throw in the powder and leave it sit? - I read about the stirring during time will allow precipitations of the kalk out of solution - I am going to start dosing this from a 44 gallon trash can using an osmolator and was wondering about this

I stir with a powerhead for a few hours, then let it sit. Stirring with the lid closed is not a significant problem if it is only a few hours to overnight. :)

I must be thick or something,

Right - add Lime to RO water and powerhead stir for couple hours,

Do you then intermittently stir or Pump stir throughout the weeks it lasts? and then presumably clean the Tub out and start again?

My efforts thanks to you seem to be working but i need to graduate from a gallon Jug.

When the limewater reservoir is nearly empty, I add the solid lime, add the water, run the powerhead a while, then shut it off. It stays off for a few weeks until I need to add lime and water again. I only clean it out once every 12 months or less. The solids just collect on the bottom, and that isn't necessarily bad.

Randy,
Thanks I've got it, took a while, but we are now there.

I am also waiting for word on where in the UK we can obtain Calcium Hydroxide - Food grade or over here BP.
I'll post when I find out.
Thanks
