This will be my only fairy wrasse. I do have several flashers. A few questions. If I get a "super male" will his colors fade with no female to show off for? If I do get a m/f pair is the female apt to change into a male resulting in battle? I know this is common with flames. I've read females can be pretty nasty. Don't get a female at all? I know you wrasse fanatics can help me out. TIA!

If you get a supermale get a much smaller female you should have a problem. They are susceptible to swim bladder disease though from my experience. I like pairs and the female lineatus are not nasty specially if she have a supermale around.

Lineatus' are not known to fade in color from what I know. I would not get a pair personally. As you are thinking, in time the female will turn male. And finally, I believe female/juvi Lineatus' are actually a bit aggressive compared to males.

IME, wrasses all seem to turn male and maintain colors when there are any other fairy/flasher wrasses in the tank.
I have/had juvi Lineatus turn male and color up nicely without pairing them up.

More importantly, IME when pairing up wrasses the juvi/female wrasses will eventually turn male, and it usually seems that the first to go (die) will be the 'supermale' ... in other words... the 'terminal male' will be terminated!

Yes, make sure that there isn't any swim bladder issues. I have yet to receive one that doesn't show signs of it.

I haven't noticed signs of fading before.

If I get one from DD or another source that puts the fish through quarantine will the 2 or 3 weeks they have the fish be enough to determine if there is or will be a swim bladder issue? Thanks guys!! DD has had some great looking Lineatus's lately. I haven't been fast enough though.
