Linked sumps via u-tube???

Has anyone out there ever linked together sumps via a u-tube? My stand only allows for one 10gal to be put underneath the tank since the back is not open and the front has three supports. So I was thinking of linking together 2 10 gal tanks in order to get a larger sump/refugium. What do you guys think?

would you consider cutting out the side and sliding a 20 or 40 long in there? u could just buy quarter round and trim the piece u cut out so it slides back over the hole

You could also link them by drilling a hole in each and connecting via bulkhead and pvc pipe. One could be higher than the other and you could gravity feed it.

I'd prefer u-tube so that the least amount of time would be spent on the project. I do not have nearly enough time for that and would like my sump to be down for as little as possible. Yeah preferably I would puruse a number of other options including building a custom sump/fug with plumbing but time doesn't permit. So I figured the u-tube would be relatively painless, cheap and easy.

The U tube won't be painless if you lose the siphon and flood the place. Either use bulkheads or gravity. R :)

Well, the linked sump would have much more room for overflow than the current sump, which can handle the overflow. If the siphon lost power the return pump would be the only thing affected. However I plan on wiring in a simple float switch. Also, I like the u-tube because for cleaning I could still pull the sumps out with only having to redo the siphon. If they were linked together I would have to remove all equipment and water from both.
