Lionfish Eats What???

I tried the krill, but he is not interested. The others eat it, but he just turns and goes the other way, after realizing it isn't alive. What is the best thing to feed him, nutritional wise and keeping wise? How much do I feed him and how long will this food keep for??? Thank to all your replies in advance!!!

How long have you had it? Was it newly wild caught or from someone else who had it for a while? How much do you know about lions?

You might need to train the lionfish to take dead food. Whole krill and whole lancefish would be fine places to start.

get a clear acrylic rod 1/8" or 1/4" and put the food on the end and wave it in front of him. doing this makes him think that it is still alive.

silversides, on a toothpic attached to a 3/8" hex rod of acrylic with two o-rings. also how i feed my Anemone. (use a new TP each time)
and as Sam stated, make it look alive, it will dissapear in a flash. spear it through the flesh just ahead of the tail so the toothpic doesnt cut the lions mouth when its sucked in.

i feed the anemone head and guts only. they will regurgitate the meaty/flesh part everytime.
GBTA & PBTA
the purple BTA is about 2 years old. it was palm size when i got it. now its about 12" Dia. when full extended. its HUGE!!! :eek2:

i just purchased him 3 days ago...beofre i bought him they fed him and i watched him eat like 10 silver- something fish...boy did he have an appetite. I am trying to now feed him frozen krill and i wave it on my acrylic stick and make it look like it is alive and he comes up on it then moves away. He is pretty avtive now in the tank and seems happy but I don't think he is full anymore ffrom the day i bought him. Do you think he will only eat live food. Do you think he knows the krill is dead and sees the clea acrylic stick??? Hmmmh is a smart bigger huh!!!

my friend tried this, he baught a fresh water yabbi then let it loose in his tank ad cut off its pincers so it couldnt harm the fish, and he hunted it. u mite also want to try live meal worms seen them work at a LFS.u mite be refering to silver sides?also some cheap fresh water fish do well apparently like feeder fish of some sort. my friend is an africa chicild breeder and just takes some of them and it worked

IMHO you can alway take a lion fish off of live feeders.
But you have to be patient.
Ifyou keep giving in along the way giving him feeders he will NEVER come off of them.
He isnt going to die from a few days wtihout food.
I have had 3 lions in my past tanks, and all of them were on silversides and krill.
Keep up wht you are doing, he will eat.

Just one mans opinion. doesnt make me right.
Good luck with it.
