Lionfish question

My Lionfish has a dark area that keeps appearing in his mid section. Its here part of the day then he's back to normal. What would be causing this? And yes the water quality checks out.. Im trying to attach a pic as well.

sounds like normal coloration changes.
in general, I find P Volitans have lighter more muted colors at night and darken during the day. But i have seem them lighten and darken at a whim.

I have a red volitan that changes all the time from his deep red to light pink , Actually its pretty cool kids like it.

I've had several lions over the years just never any that changed like this one. It was hard to get a pic that would fit the 50k limit so all the good shots i have are to difficult to downsize from 8meg. I dont have the red color changes mines more in the white area, but it will get more than twice as dark as it is pictured here. I just wondered if maybe some form of stress was taking place or if maybe feeding habits could affect this. Maybe he just needs therapy. Thanks for the replies.
