lionfish with popeye

I recently got a dwarf zebra lionfish, and today I noticed one of his eyes are cloudy and popped out--looks like popeye. Should I do daily or every other day small water changes? I checked the parameters last night, everything was perfect......damn.

if it is just 1 eye it is most likely damage from netting so yes water quality is vital.

keep a close eye on it and look for signes of bacterial infection like fin rot the other eye going etc. then look into some anti biotics.

I took out the carbon and am now treating with Melafix

Now the other eye is getting cloudy and puffing up also........he still won't eat

Probably due to an eye injury from netting, but since you just got the fish there is the possibility of ich. However, you mention popeye so it is probably a simple bacterial infection. I don't catch fish in nets. Maracyn-Two at double strength for 7 days. You can change some water in the Qtank each day before adding the next dose. I hope you have a cycled Qtank.

anyone know the correct tetracycline dosing MG/gallon? I have tetracycline capsules.....

Not a great choice for saltwater. Is it Oxytetracycline hydrochloride? What does the package say is the active ingredients? What is the salinity at? Tetracycline has to be used at very high doses in saltwater, up to 380mg/gal. You should be making a water change each day before adding the next dose. Treat a minimum of 3 days. Lights inactivate it. Maracyn-Two is from the tetracycline family, but it works better. Still have to double dose M2.

none of the stores around me had Maracyn or Maracyn 2. It's a moot point now as he died today.....
