What is the going price for a Liopropoma carmabi? I seen a pair in DD for 2K, was wondering what the price is for one?

i agree with jmaneyapanda. my LFS gets them in from time to time and sells them for between 600-700. But you can probably get them a little cheaper from an online vendor.

I got mine from the DD at Live Aquaria several months back. He cost me 939.98 shipped.
I can tell you that that was the best $940 that I have put into my tank. These fish are amazingly colored, and over time develop quite the personality.

Here is mine:

These fish are actually very hardy and feed very well, provided they are collected properly. As they are a deepwater fish, they can have problems associated with decompression. If you decide to get one, buy from a reputable source (i.e. Live Aquaria). Yes the fish will cost you more, but you are getting a specimen that was captured properly and has already be acclimated to a captive environment. :)

I agree with Michael. Mine is very happy although mildly reclusive. Aggressive eater. Gorgeous. Mine was also from DD
Live Aquaria, same price.

just make sure you cover every inch of the tank... someone on another forum recently lost theirs to jumping through a covered tank - found a little hole between the cover and the filter it seems :(

I'm glad those finally sold, should be a really nice addition to any tank. I'd be interested to see their interactions as a pair.

I heard they weren't jumpers. I may need to rethink getting one :(

I have had no issues with mine jumping. For the first week I kept a sheet of lexan over the tank just to make sure he was settled in. But I have had him for several months with no issues.

I HAD a L. swalesi which jumped after about 6 months from my previous 160 G open top reef

I did buy a pair of carmabi's last week here in the Netherlands (not from DD) and keep my tank protected from jumping... Hope to be able to take a picture of my pair soon! Saw them together last night for the first time :):inlove: In the picture you can see them in their bucket: I let them decide when to swim out, they took their time :wavehand:

I would definitely NOT keep Liopropoma's in an open top tank, sooner or later they will jump.

I'm in my late 50's and would probably have a heart attack if I found a $900 fish decided to go "carpet surfing"! ;)

Very cool picture!!!

I've had my carmabi over four years in an open top 40g breeder, though for 3 of those years it was the only fish in the tank. Now it is housed with 2 relatively non aggressive fish and still no issues.
