I was very fortunate to pick up a beautiful Candy Basslet from AquaTouch. He was introduced to his new friend, Cave Basslet, about two weeks ago. These little guys are absolutely awesome. :)

Awesome fish! Are you at all concerned keeping them in an open top tank?

If you've had good luck you may encourage me to make a purchase!

Super cute :D. Nice chalice collection as well ;).You will love your Candy in no time.

skibumm9884, I have a beautiful pair of Candy Basslets, also from AquaTouch, in an open top cube. I do have a netting screen over the top of the tank. They have only come near the top during feeding, otherwise my pair stay exclusively in the lower 1/3 of the tank cruising from cave to cave. I have never seen either of my pair get jiggy and fly around the tank in fear or flight from another fish. My pair are out and about all of the time. Such an incredibly gorgeous fish. My pair also spawn regularly when I set the right conditions with ambient lighting in the house after the tank lights go out...so incredible to watch.

Awesome
I always wondered if you could keep multiples in the same tank

Lioprapoma--as a genus--- is not a fish that lives in groups in the wild. It is more of a solitary critter that loves to stay all the way in the back of a crack or hole within a larger cave and hang out with itself. I usually see Lioprapoma aurora hanging out near Zapogon evermanni (Evermann's Cardinalfish).

Thanks for the kind words everyone!!!

Congrats on the new addition! Any signs of aggression between the two?

I was a little concerned that the Cave Basslet might chase the Candy Basslet, when first introduced. Actually, the opposite happened. After the first day, the Candy Basslet was in control of the tank. He would chase the Cave Basslet, from time to time, but it was only chasing. After a few days, they were getting along just fine. Both fish are around 1 1/2 inches, and for the most part, they are out in the open.

how big is your tank
I just got the liopropuma africanum and i was thinking of geting a L. Carmabi at a later stage in my 190g tank

I had the same exact combo in my mini - they were the best of pals and never showed any signs of aggression. Then i stupidly added a blackcap gramma which stressed them out and they all succumbed to crypto. :sad1:

Sorry to hear about that, but this would be my nano dream with a whitecap goby and just for kick, maybe a few of those albino perculas.

Thanks for that then i will keep him as the only basselet

Wow, that must have set you back a bit as they AIN'T CHEAP!
Beautiful fish, one of my personal faves!

Oh no, I think you misunderstand - the cave and candy basslets were extremely friendly towards each other - I ruined it all by adding the blackcap which promptly booted both liopropomas from their cave.
