Came across a very very small juvenile ornate butterflyfish today. Just bought him on impulsed, please dont judge me. its picking on live rock and clam in my tank. still not see any real eating yet. what to do now

little surprise

[emoji16] so sad he was collected , but if you want to do the best for him get him pavona, porites, pocillopora and montipora to munch on!
He might get used to feather dusters.... And I'm very doubtful it' lol work but if he's picking at your clam you may try oysters from the fish market ( though you may have to acclimate those and need to be super fresh)

+1

C. ornatissimus is an obligate corallivore. Really unfortunate that it was collected, as they have little chance of survival in captivity. :(

How's he doing today? Try putting a very thin (almost a film) layer of finely grated high quality food, like larrys or rods in a clam shell. it needs to be thin though, like a layer of mucus.

gone carpet surfing today, scared the hell out of me, the tank seems too small for him so i decided to donate him for a public aquaria in the city, it got plenty of sps for him to graze on

little surprise

That's an awesome outcome for the fish [emoji119]🏼 to have been bought by someone who quickly realized it's limitations in providing the proper environment and conditions for its well being....Kudos to you!
Hopefully the jump will not have been lethal...
