I bought 20lb of dry rocks and wanted to get more but was thinking of getting live rocks is it ok for me to do that? I know it might be a stupid question but just wanted to make sure.
You can use live rock, but it kind of defeats the purpose if you bought dry rock to have control over the introduction of hitchhikers. If you bought dry rock for cost reasons alone, then sure.
The live rock will "seed" the dry rock with all the critters on it, good and bad. If you have stock in the tank you will need to be careful with ammonia, as anything that dies in transport can cause a minicycle when you add it to the tank.
There is nothing in my tank yet not even water and I'm not going to put anything in it until I get all of the bad hitchhikers out. Just think it would be fun watching all the life on the rocks before I add any reefs or fish.
