Live aquria LR vs LFS

Track Rat

I'm thinking about ordering some premium fiji LR from live aquaria for a new tank. My lfs has "LR" it looks mostly brown with a hint of coraline and smells fresh. My guess is that it is decent mostly cured rock. What sort of difference would there be between rock from the shop compared to live aquaria?

Had the same decision to make last week.
Being a huge fan of LiveAquaria's Diver's Den, I checked their website and the 45pound box was on sale for $89.99! So it was an easy decision to make.
The rock selection was very diverse. A total of eleven pieces ranging in size from five to fourteen inches; only one piece of rubble at three inches. The smaller pieces were round and quite solid, but the majority of the pieces will make very nice shelves for corals.
Very pleased with the box of Premium Fiji Live Rock from LiveAquaria!

This rock will need a couple of weeks to cure.
So, the only real advantage to your LFS live rock will be that it is already cured.

Hope this helps.

My father in laws got Fiji LR from LA. Good quality, like everything from them. Lots of good growth/ hitchhikkers on it. Of course the advantage of the LFS is you get to hand pick what you want vs. getting a box of whatever LA sends you.

If you get it from the LFS do a phosphate test of the water. When you buy live rock, you frequently bring home more than just live rock.

With all the information on RC reguarding what's good & bad about live rock, I like to cherry-pick the pieces I want at various LFS in my area. So far so good. Don't get me wrong, you can get some great rock online, but like mentioned above, your stuck with what they give you. It's kind of a crap shoot really. JMO.

Thanks for the responses. As much as I wanted to try out liveaquaria I went to my lfs and bought 40 pounds of fiji for my RSM 130D. it was $6 per pound so the price wasn't too bad. As for the quality of the rock it actually looks pretty good. There was more coraline growth on them then I had originally thought.

It's in the tank right now. My biggest struggle will be aquascaping. I can't for the life of me figure out a way to aquascape a somewhat small cube. Seems the only way to do it is to go with the mound theme...ugh...
