live brine

You should ask them to feed the fish before you buy it. If it won't eat some flake, might save you the hassle/grief.

That is what I usually do, I don't buy a fish from a store until I see it eat or wait for at least a week before I buy.

I agree with feeding it before you bring it home , whenever that is an option.

It is really too bad that this fish didn't make it , Blonde Nasos are beautiful.

I wouldn't give up Sam , I am positive it was not due to faulty husbandry, just bad circumstance.

Well thanks. I'll give it a while and I'll take another shot at it. I agree, its a beautiful fish. It was my favorite. Maybe next time I'll be able to take the gamble that no one will purchase it, rather than the gamble it will eat. Its hard though!

is the chevron eating?

Back to the original question though, hatching brine shrimp is a simple process. If you can find the eggs (pretty easy, they're commonly sold in pet stores), they contain instructions and will hatch overnight. The only things you'll need are a container, some salt water, and an air stone.

Other interesting things to note, and to make things more complicated. You can decapsulate the cysts for better hatch rate, less risk of introducing disease, and obviously no empty cysts for the fish to choke on.
First you hydrate the cysts by soaking them in water untill the dents pop out. The decapsulation is done with bleach, I think 50% but I'd have to check if anyone is interested, stir or aerate for like 5-7 minutes and the cyst shell (brown) will disapear and leave the pink/orange membrane, rinse in tap water, add to the brine water and they'll hatch out.
(this is from memory, so correct me if I am mistaken)
