Live framing your Tank.

I have been looking into ways I can aquascape my new tank, I was looking through a saltwater mag and found an article that explains how to what they call live frame your tank. It uses PVC and your rock that you have already. I'm going to buy the mag and post a few pics of it tonight. I was just wondering if anyone had heard of this or knows of a website that has more about it? They go through some detail in the magazine but not as many pics as I would like.

A lot of people here used PVC to help stack their rock, some drill the rock too. You can also use pvc and eggcrate together. Some people also use foam and sand.

Yes I have seen a lot of the ways you use pvc and egg crate. This method keeps you from having to drill the rock though, you just glue it to a small piece and then it hangs on what looks like 4 inch pvc tube that is sitting upright on the bottom of the tank. A picture will explain it better than I can in writing.

so do the pieces you glue to the rock fit into the 4" piece like the limbs on an artificial x-mas tree?

I just did that to a tank the other day! I think it turned out great. It's not a lot of work. It just requires a little bit of forethought.

Thanks Nick I was trying to keep up with that thread, than I lost it.
KvcGsxr600 I'd like to see that mag article or at least the highlights as to not infringe on any copyrights. I have a side project I want to do to my tank that is easy enough to build than drop it in.

Here are a few pics from the article, the mag is Marine Fish and Reef we carry it at my store. I don't want to post any of the words like you said as to not infringe on copyright laws, but a few pics I don't think are bad. If anything it may encourage people to go buy this magazine. Yes it is a lot like a fake x-mas tree I just really liked the idea plus they are moveable.


Ok here is the tank as it is.

That looks pretty cool. My only concern with it would be water becoming anaerobic inside the larger tubes without enough open holes for flow. This could be alleviated be plumbing a power head to the large tubes, creating something like an in tank closed loop system. Or maybe just cut the PVC pipe in half before you build it.

Logik your tank turned out nice I would love to see it with some rock and fish. Are you gonna do a nano thread? ahhaahha

Thanks for the compliment. Start a nano thread? Not likely. My tank is super way too tuff for them to handle.

Would you please explain a little more about the base for the PVC towers?

The bottom of the 4 icnh pvc was glued to a rock that sits on the bottom of the tank for stability.

I'd like to do the same thing on my next tank but just islands. I don't want anything on the walls of the tank
