live mysid are very cannabilistic, a fuge is a good idea but you won't be able to culture enough of them to keep your horses well fed. horses absolutely love them and i still order them occasionally as a snack but 200 live mysid don't last long. you can get them online from reedmariculture.com, i suggest them because they are aquacultured. i'm waiting on another aquaculture facility to start offering them to the public, they keep telling me "soon" but they're rumored to be less expensive than reeds. there are a couple of others that sell online as well, but they're wild caught and introducing potential pathogens is a real concern. i've ordered from sach's (aquaculturestore.com) and while i haven't had problems with them i believe they are wild caught.
i always suggest seawaterexpress.com, they are Penaeus vannamei and what my horses get. if you tell george what species you have you can get the size you want (anything from nauplii on up). i generally order the 1/4 - 1/2". you're not going to be able to culture these on your own, they grow to be 9" and are raised for human consumption. if you're into driving or headed out to vegas anytime you can pick them up from him as well. drs. foster and smith sell his shrimp as well at a higher cost.
i can generally find ghost shrimp at most LFS, window to the sea in orange county, mark's and aquarium city in sherman oaks. getting the right size is the hard part.
i've ordered saltwater ghost shrimp from LFScultures.com in the past and they were very good about shipping me the size i wanted (i asked for the smallest ones they had). they used to have a link buried on their website for them, i don't see if now, but it's worth a call or an e-mail. same issue with potential pathogens though.
getting live shipped to you is expensive, it's also kind of a pain since most places don't ship friday-monday. you have to make sure you've got enough on hand because if you run out on thursday you won't be able to get any more until tuesday.
i can give you some feeder shrimp and live mysid if you want to get something in your horses asap. let me know.
