Well I just lost a bout with ick in my 11gal tank today. I have 80lbs of dry Marco Rock and I want to start cycling it, can I use the rock from the tank that had ick to cycle it?? Suggestions. please.
Not to hyjack, but is that the same with corals too? My LFS has /had a fish in every system...including the live rock tank and all the coral tanks. So, if I get live rock or corals from them it will give it to my tank?
there's no way to "wash" off the potential parasites. however, if you buy live rocks from LFS you can leave them in the sun to completely dry to kill the parasites. however, that'll kill any other living organisms in the live rocks as well which turn them into dry base rocks.
so now you should see that this hobby requires patience and being impatient is the biggest killer in this hobby.
You'll see "Coral Dips', a lot of hobbyists think they will solve the ich problem. they don't, they only help with stuff that bothers coral. Anything wet can carry disease/parasites into your tank.
