ok im tired of searching the internet for the cheapest live and base rock(my mouse pad is starting to lose its color)i need a good source for 50lbs. of live and 25lbs of base, wheres the best (and cheapest)place on the net to get some??oh and also is that even a good amount of rock for a 55g tank?

I would try to watch Craig's List or the forums of any local reef clubs you might have. I'm sure there are some local clubs in Florida that you could use as a source. I often times see it going for $2-$3/lb here in Dallas which beats the hell out of the $8-$9 price at the fish stores.

As for how much rock you need: I've heard that its good to have 1 to 2 lbs per gallon. So it looks like you are on the right track. Note that some fish such as manderins require more rock because they solely eat the pods that live on the rock.

Good luck!

Your in Florida??????

Don't you have a local LFS that has Live Rock ??

ALSO REMEMBER.......the cheap..Can turn out to be very expencive

here in florida there asking about 4.99.:eek1: the link for bulkreefsupply doesnt seem to exist, lol.the search comes up empty, and marco doesnt seem to have much on his website.1.99 sound great to me but no one on ebay is selling it for that much anymore i guess.

the link for bulkreefsupply doesnt seem to exist, lol.

That site is on the sponsors page under Two Part Solution.

Check for local club sites which you can also find from this site:

You can often find others selling their rock when downsizing, getting out of the hobby, changing things up, etc.

I must add a vote for Bulk Reef Supply (http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/). The guys who own the business are great to work with (they let me pick out my rock at the store) and their shipping charges are VERY low. All of their versions of rock run from $2.39/lb to $2.99/lb.

yeah just looked at the bulkreefsupply site great looking figi rock thats for sure and cant beat the shipping prices

here in el paso where there is no chance of a beach ever being here i got a 52lb box of figi beautiful colorfull pieces full of hitchikers and featherdusters and sponges, i got it for $208 and no tax. thats under $4 a lb.... good deal indeed.

Here at my lfs, they're asking $12.99 for a pound of Figi. Needless to say they don't sell much of it. I would check out www.tampabaysaltwater.com. They've got very good rock and it is loaded with lots of cool stuff. There are however somethings you'll want to watch for but they have a "Bad Critter" list. Great prices and great service!
