Live Rock from the backyard???

I bought about 80 lbs of live rock about a year ago. I buried all the pieces in the backyard because I made the mistake of telling my friend I had a garbage can of saltwater in my garage. He went crabbing and dropped in about 20 crab they all died and the water smelled like rotting eggs. So I buried the live rock in the backyard. If I dug up the rock can I still use it in my tank? I will cure it before adding it to the dt.

Right there too. I could see leaving it in the backyard, but why go through the trouble of digging a hole and back-filling around the rock?

New Jersey already smells you should have left it out. LOL.

Better than the red clay in the Carolinas..

I would say wash it real well and throw it in some tubs with some good circulation for a few weeks with some water changes and see what comes out of it.

I would have just done water changes at the beginning instead of putting it a few feet under......

It might have actually improved the oder. :eek2:

I dug up about 13 pieces. I think its pretty good I saved myself probably a hundred bucks maybe. Before I washed the rocks off they were covered in dirt. Now they are clean and drying in the sun. And for all you dieing to know what the soils like in NJ its hard and red just like clay.

ok ill ask it what else is buried back there? dont answer. might consider the rock cooking method for this suituation. partly for just dirt removal but i think mostly for what has soaked into that outer layer of rock that has died off. that that thats what i would do.
