live rock help needed

is it possable for live rock to die? if it is what are the signs of dieing off?

the rock is just a rock, but the bacteria, bugs, tiny crustaceans, worms, etc living on/in the rock can die yes. If it ALL dies, it becomes 'dead' rock.

I'm new too so I probably couldn't help so much, but a suggestion...

maybe if you describe what's happening, someone with more experience can better help you remedy the situation (if it needs fixing).

The coralline algae bleaches and becomes white. Other encrusting oganisms turn black and slimey. It will also have a foul smell. Ammonia may increase in the tank.
