Live Rock order

Hi Jeremy,

I have a question for you regarding LR. I am having my 55 gal. FOWLR tank set up by someone this upcoming Friday. I would like to have the LR in time for the setup which will be in the morning. In order to do this, I would like to order the LR so that shipment arrives on Thursday. Would it be okay if I kept the LR in its packagin overnight Thursday?

Thanks,

Gary

It's best to get the rock tanked as quickly as possible. If you're using uncured live rock it wouldn't matter as much, but you're still losing a little life every hour it's out of the water. You might moisten it with seawater when you get it before boxing it up for the night. We try to pack with moist towels, so that will help you too. Make sure to let us know to pack it as moist as possible, and still be safe to ship. If you ship it overnight as opposed to 2 day ground, that would be good. Next day air service is delivered before 10:30 am to most areas, so that's an option as well. I'm not sure about this, but I thought I heard that UPS also delivers 2 day air packages before 10:30 am as well. You might check with UPS and make sure I'm correct. Hope this is helpful!

Thanks Jay! If I can have the LR overnighted so that it arrives before 10:30 am this Friday, then that's the way to go. Would it be a problem adding the LR to a tank that is already filled with water? How does the Marshall Island rock look? Thanks.

The Marshall looks good as always. You can add the rock to a filled tank. Just be sure that the water is at the right salinity and that you leave enough room for water displacement when the rock is added.

Would 55 pds of Marshall be sufficient for a 55 gal. tank? I've heard of the formula of 1 pd per gal. but I dont know if there is any scientific basis to this or where this ratio originated. My tank's dimensions are 12" wide by 48" long and 20" in height. Please select pieces of LR with these dimensions in mind. I would like to have my order overnighted for Friday morning delivery. Thanks for your excellent customer service!

He'll probably say the fiji is looking better than normal, and the marshall always looks nice.
I got some rocks from them about a month ago (uncured). It came to me nicely packaged and you couldn't even tell it was uncured. It basically took less than a week to fully cycle.
I was impressed with the Marshall rocks. If you going to do things right, go with that.
THe marshall lacks some life (critters, etc), but you can always buy stuff like pods, stars, etc to seed your tank with.
Just my 2 cents.
Stewie

Thanks Stewie! Your 2 cents is much appreciated and always welcomed here. I think I will go with about 55 pds of cured Marshall for my 55 gal. tank. With less life, will that mean my cycle will take longer? It would be great if it only took a week for my cycle. Thanks again.

Hey guys,

How much would it cost to FedEx Ground 55 pds of LR? Would this take 2 days to ship to NJ and would this be okay for cured LR? I would have preferred to at least next day it, but this would be too expensive for me. Please advise. Thanks.

Gary

Hi Gary,

Ground shipping which is a 2-day transit up to you would cost between $25 and $30.

Right now with the weather we are having I think a 2 day transit would be just fine. You will get a little more dieoff shipping with this method, however it would be very minimal.

Thanks,
Jeremy
