live rock problems

a piece of my liverock has (when purchased) a black place the size of a silver dollar and was wondering if this is bad? i was told that it was just dead material and i shouldnt worry about it but will the rock change colors like the rest of my live rock? i appreciate any and all feedback.

i think you should be fine i have some blk spots on my when i bought it my fish just picked at it and it is gone now

Yes it will color back up again. Rock usually come into LFS's looking like *** and smelling even worse. A quick curing process before going into you display tank is sometimes needed.

Probably just decaying matter. No worries. Just keep testing your ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate to follow the cycle.

If you are lucky it may even be a black sponge (Rare and atractive) hope will grows

Interesting, i did not know black sponges are rare, i have one on my lr (well looks black, might be dark purple, but I'm sure its black.)
