Live Rock QT???

Just wondering how you more experienced reefers feel about adding new live rock. Do you simply place it in your main tank or do you QT it somehow?

I don't have a separate QT area and usually dip my new corals in Lugols solution, so far, so good...but, with live rock, who knows whats in it...so, would you suggest simply letting it sit in a fresh water bath for an hour or so? Or would that kill as much of the good stuff on the rock as bad? How about a salt water bath with Lugols solution???

Please let me know asap, I've got about 30 lbs of live rock sitting in my garage waiting to be put in the tank...lol, I'd rather get your opinions before placing it in the tank.

Thanks!

Mike

I would sugest getting a trash can or rubermaid container and putting new saltwater in it with a power head. Do some water changes, and water testing. When you amonia is at 0 ppm than you should be goo to add it to your tank.

I agree with shuturhole, as far as hitchhikers you may not be able to identify them until seen in your main tank but I would try and search the rocks when they have been in the dark for a few hours in the container with a pen lite

Yes, Cure the new rock in a rubbermaid like suggested above. Cheap and effective. And definatly listen to supertech3's advice, and search that rock well bfore adding it to yoru system. No telling whatyou may have hiding in there somewhere.
