Live Rock Question

Has anyone used Caribsea Honeycomb Base Rock for there reefs.
I like the honeycomb look of this.

I have to decide between this rock or Fiji live rock.

I know that I will have to make the Honeycomb rock alive, That is not a problem.

Which rock is better and why please.

I, personally, would go with the live rock. But that's JMO.

IMO i would go all fiji unless money is tight or time, if you get base you have to wait for it to be live, or you can get all fiji and when its done curing its all live, plus and 50$ for 50lbs base or at drf s you can get 45lbs fiji for 89.99, shipping should be too much more fore the live either

Caribsea Honeycomb Base Rock is very porous hence light, Fiji live rock is much denser. Honeycomb rock will provide an excellent base for live rock of your choice. Personally, I'd go with something less dense like Lalo, Marshal, Tonga or Fiji shelf rock - just easier to aquascape with and looks a whole lot better than a few boulders covered in coraline that Fiji rock tends to be. Under proper conditions you won't be able to see a difference between a base rock and live rock in as few as 4 - 5 months. Just MHO. Good luck.

Fiji live rock is more porous than honeycomb. That gives certain tank critters more room to play and live. Also, you'll get more surface area for bacteria growth. You could get some honeycomb and seed it with fiji, then remove the fiji if you wanted.

At 50lbs. it wouldn't make a huge deal if you used either or, but to start out with, fiji is the best.
